PITTSBURGH — U.S. Steel Corp. (NYSE: X) is wasting no time in getting its new minimill in Osceola, Arkansas, up and running.
On Wednesday, U.S. Steel announced that it has officially broken ground on the new minimill. The Pittsburgh-based steel company announced in January 2022 its $3 billion investment in a new steelmaking facility adjacent to its existing Big River Steel mini mill in Osceola. Together, the two minimills will form one mega mill known as the Big River Steel Works.
U.S. Steel President and CEO David Burritt, as well as COO of Big River Steel Works Dan Brown, celebrated the groundbreaking in Osceola on Tuesday, along with state and local officials in Arkansas and the company’s business partners, Entergy Corp. and BNSF Railway. Burritt referred to the groundbreaking as “amongst our brightest spots in the history of the company.”
