On Saturday, Aug. 13, Henry County deputies were dispatched to the 9300 block of South Mill Road in Knightstown in reference to a family fight.

Upon arrival, an officer with the Knightstown Police Department had arrived on scene and separated the involved parties. Officers then began to speak with a subject who was reportedly visibly upset.

The subject stated that they and their three siblings were assisting in helping a sibling gather belongings for college. They advised that they had propped open the front door to the residence. As they were moving items back and forth to vehicles, Earl Carroll, 52, allegedly woke up and became upset with the door being opened. They stated that they told him that it would be temporary until all of their belongings were removed. They advised that he stated he didn’t care and shut the door.

The subject stated that they then went and reopened the door propping it back open.

Carroll allegedly began to argue with the subject. The conversation allegedly ended up escalating into Carroll grabbing the person by both arms and physically pushing them out the door and onto the wood deck. He allegedly began to shake them and continually push them back down onto the deck as they attempted to stand.

During the exchange, Caroll also allegedly grabbed the person around their neck with both hands, restricting the subject’s airflow. The incident was eventually broken up as family intervened.

The reporting officer observed what appeared to be scratch marks on both arms on the subject along with redness and scratch on their neck.

Carroll stated that he had awoken when his front door opened and asked the alleged victim why it was open. Carroll told police that he told them that he wanted it shut so no flies would come into the house.

Carroll advised that he began to argue with the alleged victim about the situation. According to the report, Carroll told police they both got in one another’s face but denied at any point that he battered the subject. He stated that the subject allegedly struck him, ripping his shirt. Officers did not observe any visible marks on Carroll, according to the report.

Witnesses on scene stated that they saw Carroll strike the subject after the person talked back to him.

Earl Carroll was arrested on charges of a Level 6 Felony strangulation and a Class A Misdemeanor domestic battery.
