The annual Akron Pizza Fest is coming up. Here’s an updated vendor list, and fireworks have been added. (Business Wire)
AKRON, Ohio – Akron Pizza Fest organizers are out with an updated list of participating restaurants, and fireworks have been added to the annual Labor Day weekend festival.
The fest is Friday to Sunday, Sept. 2-4, at Lock 3 in downtown Akron. As is tradition, pizza will be judged in three categories: Best overall, best specialty and people’s choice.
Pizza vendors also will sell sample-sized slices. Other food and beverage vendors will be in attendance.
“What better way to bring people together than with a pizza fest?” organizer Rick Perk said.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Lunch.
5 to 11 p.m. – Pizza-eating contests, free cornhole and kids activities.
Performing: Ravenwood, 7 p.m.; ZOSO, a tribute to Led Zepplin, 8:15 p.m. (ZOSO drew more than 6,000 people last year, Perk said.)
Noon to 11 p.m. - Local sports celebrities, pizza-eating contests, cornhole tournaments, kids activities, fireworks at dusk.
Performing: Jeff Klemm & The Letters, noon; Bad JuJu, 2 p.m.; Stevie Ray Visited tribute with Anya Van Rose, 7 p.m.
Noon to 6 p.m. – Pizza-judging, family events, cornhole tournament, kids activities, more.
Performing: Bradfords Gate, noon; The Besides, 2 p.m.; Back & Forth, Foo Fighters tribute, 4 p.m.
• $5 until 5 p.m., $7 after 5 p.m. and $7 BOGO noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.
• $3 for college students with college ID, $5 after 5 p.m. Saturday.
• $2 for ages 13-17 ($3 after 5 p.m. Saturday).
Putt-Putt for dough ($1 per putt or four for $3) will be offered daily.
Parking is free at Summit County parking deck on High Street, O’Neil’s parking deck on State Street and Cascade parking facility off Mill Street. Nearby lot is on W. Bowery Street, west of Main Street.
