A jaw-droppingly large sailing yacht, complete with its own float plane, wowed boat enthusiasts while docked at a South Island marina on Tuesday.
The 75-metre luxury yacht M5, also known as the Mirabella V, is the world’s largest single-masted sailing yacht, with its mast reaching 86 metres tall, according to a profile on Boat International.
Built in 2004 at an estimated cost of $50 million USD, the yacht is now owned by Texas-based billionaire Rodney Lewis.
The yacht docked in Mill Bay Sunday night after departing Bedwell Harbour on south Pender Island, according to MarineTraffic.com.
It quickly drew plenty of onlookers thanks to its towering mast and a float plane docked on the vessel.

Staff at the Mill Bay Marina tell CHEK News they’re “super excited” to have the record-setting yacht docked there, adding that it’s the largest boat to ever do so.
“We feel pretty lucky,” one employee said.
