BRIDGEPORT, CT — A road milling and paving project in Bridgeport, which will restore intersections on East Main Street from Stratford Avenue to the Huntington Turnpike, is scheduled to begin Tuesday night, according to city officials. The project will be done by the state Department of Transportation.

The MILLING component is tentatively expected to last about six nights and finish the morning of May 24.

The PAVING portion is expected to begin the night of May 24, and will last about eight nights and end on the morning of June 8. The projected working hours are 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., depending on weather.

It should be remembered that "milling" refers to the process of grinding and removing the existing top layer of pavement. Drivers should exercise caution during the milling process.

Drivers are reminded of the following during this time:

1. Comply to "No Parking" signs that may be put on roads 24 hours before paving. These zones will be enforced, and if a car is parked on a road that is scheduled to be paved, it will be towed.

2. Follow the detour signs that will be displayed while the pavement is being done. Please prepare appropriately and be aware that getting to your destination may take longer than expected.

3. Drive cautiously, keeping an eye out for elevated structures and manhole covers that may still be exposed and raised until paving is completed.
