Aries Clean Energy has completed environmental permitting for a large-scale biosolids gasification facility to be built in New Jersey. The company has also launched retail sales of its Aries Green biochar product.

Aries announced July 15 it has received all approvals required to construct its proposed biosolids-only gasification facility in a repurposed building within the Linden Roselle Sewerage Authority complex in Linden, New Jersey, approximately 20 miles from Manhattan.

According to Aries, the facility will process 400 tons of biosolids daily using the company’s patented fluidized bed gasification system. The 400 tons of biosolids processed each day will result in 22 tons of biochar that will be used as a substitute for fly ash in concrete. Renewable energy that is generated from the system is recovered and used within the system. As a result, no fossil fuels are used during normal operations. Aries also said the plant will reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) due to the reduction in trucking miles associated with conventional disposal methods, as well as the elimination of methane generated from land application of biosolids.

Information published by Aries indicates construction on the plant is expected to begin during the third quarter of this year, with full operations beginning during the fourth quarter of 2020.

The company announced July 17 it has launched retail sales for its Aries Green biochar product, which carries both the USDA Certified Biobased Product label and the International Biochar Institute Certified biochar seal. The product is begin offered in a 4-quart jug and a 5-gallon bucket.
